Overview
Music Teacher - All Levels (Anticipated Openings ) at Springfield Empowerment Zone Partnership. Springfield Public Schools (SPS), an urban school district in Western Massachusetts, is accepting applications for full-time and part-time music teaching positions at the elementary and middle school levels. Qualified candidates must have state certification, strong music content knowledge, a passion for teaching, excellent interpersonal skills, and solid classroom management abilities.
Responsibilities- Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at times designated.
- Plans a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students as much as possible.
- Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
- Guides the learning process toward achievement of district curriculum goals; establishes and communicates clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects.
- Prepares for classes assigned and provides written evidence of preparation upon request.
- Employs a variety of instructional techniques and media appropriate to the location and student needs.
- Supports the district’s philosophy of education, instructional goals, and performance expectations.
- Assesses student progress regularly; provides progress reports as required and communicates with parents as needed.
- Maintains accurate records as required by law, district policy, and regulations.
- Diagnoses learning challenges and seeks district specialists as needed.
- Takes reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Follows district conduct codes and develops fair classroom behavior rules.
- Plans and supervises paraprofessional assignments and provides written evaluations as required.
- Engages in ongoing professional growth to meet district requirements and personal professional goals.
- Participates in the teacher evaluation process and contributes to evaluation outcomes.
- Attends building and district meetings and participates in school activities as scheduled.
- Contributes to district and building decisions regarding budget, facilities, curriculum, and staffing wellbeing.
- Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
- Highly qualified with competency in the content area; appropriate content/program area educator license (Music: Vocal/Instrumental/General) and grade level (All) licensure from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
- Bachelor’s Degree with appropriate license; or Master’s Degree with appropriate content area license (preferred and/or expected within 5 years).
