The Instructional Leadership Specialist collaborates with district and school leaders to facilitate and execute the district’s Strategic Plan with fidelity and integrity. The role requires spending 50% of time in classrooms modeling, coaching, co-teaching, and demonstrating standards-based practices; 30% of time reviewing data, leading team meetings, presenting professional development, facilitating professional learning communities; and 20% of time instructing students.

Primary responsibilities

  • Plan, implement, and support rigorous standards-based instruction for all students.
  • Design model classrooms for demonstration purposes.
  • Support and facilitate planning and implementation of rigorous, standards-based lessons in response to student data.
  • Assist educators with technology tools and resources that enhance student-centered instruction.
  • Access, analyze, and act on school, classroom, and student data to support quality standards-based instruction.
  • Facilitate professional learning communities.
  • Collaboratively design and execute targeted school-based professional development aligned with the district’s Strategic Plan.
  • Attend and actively participate in all school-based Instructional Leadership Team meetings and district professional development.
  • Engage the school community to understand contributions to the district’s Strategic Plan and to raise student achievement.
  • Foster a school culture of reflective practice, high expectations, and continuous learning.
  • Develop partnerships with district/building administration, families, and community to support improvement efforts.
  • Model high expectations for instruction and ensure accessibility for all students.
  • Encourage staff to reflect on practice and use data, current research, and best practices to adapt.
  • Coach and manage teams to achieve district and school-based goals; provide constructive feedback with actionable next steps.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience directly with students, with most teaching experience in the applicable content area.
  • 95% attendance rate in the  and  academic years (historical context).
  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution or plans to obtain one within 1 year (provisional appointment requires progress toward degree).
  • Professional teaching license from MA Department of Elementary and Secondary Education in English Language Arts, Mathematics, or Science as applicable.
  • Overall exemplary evaluation rating preferred; minimum of proficient rating required from the last two years of employment.
  • Demonstrated growth in student achievement over the past 1-2 years.

Application Process

  • Phase One - Initial Application
  • Letter of Interest describing expertise in impacting teacher practice, analysis and use of student data, leadership, implementation of student learning goals, and instructional planning.
  • Copy of a valid professional teaching license.
  • Resume with complete history of professional work experience.
  • Names and contact information of three professional references.

After initial review, selected candidates will be notified if approved to proceed to the next phase.

  • Phase Two - Site-Based Observation
  • Academic Department staff will observe the candidate either leading adult learning or instructing students. This observation is non-evaluative.

After the site-based observation, selected candidates will be notified if approved to proceed to the next phase.

  • Phase Three - Interview with Performance-Based Tasks
  • Data analysis task: candidates will analyze a provided data set and present findings to the Interview Committee, showing growth in student achievement.
  • Part 3:
    Interview – candidate will present data analysis, explain instructional moves, and demonstrate expertise related to duties in this posting.
  • Phase Four - Principal Interview
  • Candidates who complete previous phases may be interviewed by principals and the Chief School Officer to determine employment eligibility.

If not immediately placed after the principal interview, candidates may be placed in a pool of applicants.
