Overview
We invite you to apply for the Elementary School Counselor role at Springfield Empowerment Zone Partnership and join a district dedicated to equity and excellence in education.
Responsibilities- Provide comprehensive developmental guidance to students in grades 6–8, ensuring academic, personal, social, and career growth.
- Collaborate with the Principal, Director of Student Support Services, teachers, staff, and parents to deliver individualized counseling and group services.
- Design, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive school counseling program that meets district standards and aligns with the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks.
- Conduct counseling sessions in individual, small group, and whole class settings, using data to inform interventions and support student success.
- Interpret standardized test results and use achievement data to advise students, families, and staff.
- Maintain records to document counseling interactions, interventions, decisions, and referrals, ensuring confidentiality and legal compliance.
- Refer students and families to community agencies, programs, and specialists, maintaining a list of district and community resources.
- Advocate for all students, respecting cultural and ethnic diversity and promoting equity for every student and family.
- Participate in the evaluation, revision, and annual review of the school counseling program, including budgeting and calendar planning.
- Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
- Certification as a School Counselor by the Massachusetts Department of Education.
- Preference for advanced degree training in guidance and successful teaching experience in secondary schools.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; knowledge of theories of intellectual, social, and emotional development.
- Familiarity with school guidance counseling practices, mental health and emotional impairments, substance abuse prevention, crisis management, and the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks.
- Experience with a comprehensive school counseling program and the American School Counselor Association Framework for School Counseling Programs.
- Ten or more hours beyond the bachelor’s degree in counseling or allied subjects such as the psychology of tests and measurements.
