Summary Description

The primary responsibility of this position is to prepare, manage and report to senior management, the Finance Committee, the BH Board of Trustees, and the Audit & Compliance Committee the Health System’s consolidated financial results of operations. This role is accountable for the preparation of the Health System's annual audited financial statements and footnotes, consolidating 14 different Baystate entities with approximately $3 billion in total assets and net revenue.

The Manager oversees the timely and accurate preparation of audited consolidated financial statements, coordinates and manages the audit process with our third‑party auditing firm, and ensures monthly consolidating financial statements are reported accurately. The position also manages month‑to‑month financial accounting for Baystate Health, Inc. and its entities, handles intercompany eliminations exceeding $300 million annually, records and allocates Health benefits expenses of about $100 million, prepares DB and DC pension plan audits, works with the Sr Director – Accounting and Financial Reporting for the off‑shore insurance captive, and supports rating agencies with financial analysis.

& Scope

The Manager supervises several GL and Sr GL Accountants, monitors performance, recommends employee actions, develops internal programs, and ensures accurate financial reporting and statistical information. The Manager is the primary link between Health System cost centers and senior management, developing systems for accurate data accumulation and timely response to budget variances and cash flow issues.

Job Responsibilities
  • Management, supervision and oversight of the assembly and reporting of monthly consolidated system financial statements and statistics.
  • Management of the year‑end financial statement audit for Baystate Health, Inc. with third‑party auditor.
  • Supervision / review of the month‑to‑month accounting and financial reporting results for Baystate Health, Inc., and subsidiaries.
  • Oversight of the preparation of the annual Federal and State tax returns for Baystate Health, Inc., and subsidiaries.
  • Management, supervision and oversight of the assembly and reporting of quarterly and annual statutory filings.
  • Serves as the subject matter expert for new and existing accounting pronouncements and the impact that new guidance has on the consolidated financial statements.
  • Establish and maintain accounting policies to ensure reported financial information is delivered accurately and timely.
  • Prepares and presents financial statement information to internal and external stakeholders, boards, and committees.
Required Experience

CPA and 8 to 10 years of related accounting experience.

Required Education

Associate of Arts.

Skills and Competencies

Significant knowledge of GAAP and statutory accounting, mastery of Microsoft Office (Excel and PowerPoint), strong oral and written communication skills, and the ability to lead a team through change.

Education

Associate’s Degree (Required).

Certifications

Certified Public Accountant – Other.
