Staff Accountant – Center for Human Development
The Center for Human Development is seeking a detail-oriented, experienced professional to serve as Staff Accountant in our fiscal department located in Springfield, MA. In this role you will build working relationships with Agency Program Directors, the fundraising team, and banking representatives related to accounting and cash management functions.
Responsibilities- Prepares error‑free monthly financial reports and periodic reports on financial performance to inform strategic decision‑making.
- Supports development and documentation of financial transaction processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls.
- Ensures compliance with GAAP principles and internal policies and controls.
- Follows through reconciling items to get them cleared or resolved within 90 days of the transaction.
- Reconciles and records daily bank transactions, including clearing canceled checks, entering voided or returned checks, and ACHs. Reconciliation includes deposits at the bank and accounting software.
- Performs research and analysis, maintains the general ledger, and performs account reconciliations.
- Assists with external audit, tax returns, and governmental reports preparation.
- Makes recommendations based on analysis of reserves, accruals, and contingencies.
- Assists divisional and executive leaders with interpreting financial information.
- Maintains customer/colleague confidence and protects operations by keeping financial information confidential.
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge.
- Bachelor's degree in accounting and a minimum of 2 years of direct experience.
- Direct financial experience in a non‑profit human services organization is preferred but not required.
- Strong knowledge of Excel, including pivot tables, filters, and XLOOKUP functions.
- Attention to detail is a must.
We are offering a competitive salary starting at $55,000 – $65,000, commensurate with experience. Additional benefits include dental, health, and life insurance, paid time off, earned vacation time, and paid holidays.
