Responsible for performing all aspects of sterile processing, including decontamination, inspection, assembly, and sterilization of surgical instruments and equipment, ensuring compliance with hospital protocols and manufacturer instructions. Requires strong attention to detail, knowledge of infection control and sterilization standards, and collaboration in a fast‑paced healthcare environment.
Key Responsibilities- Decontaminate, clean, inspect, assemble, and sterilize surgical instruments and equipment.
- Operate sterilization equipment including steam, ethylene oxide, and low‑temperature gas plasma sterilizers.
- Ensure adherence to all sterilization parameters and maintain accurate documentation.
- Perform quality checks, including biological and chemical monitoring.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Inspect sterile goods for package integrity and expiration dates.
- Communicate effectively with nurses, physicians, and other healthcare professionals.
- Perform additional clerical and documentation tasks as needed.
Must have CBSPD and/or HSPA certification at time of hire.
Qualifications and Career LadderLevel I
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Experience in sterile processing or perioperative environment preferred.
Level II
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Minimum 1 year of experience in sterile processing or as an entry‑level surgical technician.
Level III
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Certified Sterile Processing Technician (CBSPD and/or HSPA) with a minimum of 2 years of experience.
Level IV
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- 3–5 years of experience in sterile processing with knowledge of operating room instrumentation, with 1 year at Baystate.
Hourly base pay: $20.38 – $24.08 – $29.24
Sign‑On Bonus: $2,000 (subject to change)
1‑Year SPD Experience Required.
