Summary: The Pharmacy Operations Supervisor will be an expert in pharmacy operations and medication-use systems. This leadership position will be primarily responsible for supporting pharmacy operations, staffing and scheduling, personnel management (pharmacists, technicians, and interns) and training across all shifts at Baystate Medical Center. The Supervisor will work with the front-line staff and use data and metrics to establish and manage staffing plans and schedules that meet patient care needs, operational demands, and budget considerations.

The Supervisor will utilize project management skills to design, lead and implement projects and initiatives focused on process improvement, safety, quality, cost-savings, or other patient-centered issues. The Supervisor will coordinate with our pharmacy team members to support technology and automation, medication safety, quality improvement, regulatory compliance and education related to all aspects of pharmacy operations. The Supervisor will work with the leadership team to develop goals that are aligned with departmental service line and organizational strategy and work closely with the regional entities and clinical program leadership team to support operational needs, process improvement initiatives and projects, and meet departmental goals.

The Supervisor will lead the BMC Pharmacy Operations Leadership Committee and serve on other Committees as necessary to coordinate and maintain the operational pharmacy services. This Supervisor position has direct report responsibilities for pharmacists, technicians and interns. These responsibilities will include time card management, annual and ongoing performance reviews, career advancement mentorship and oversight of training and education. The Supervisor will be expected to use data and metrics to provide direct oversight of employees to ensure they are accountable to expectations, goals and adhere to the BH code of conduct.

The Supervisor will serve as preceptor for learners in the department, including training of post-graduates/residents, pharmacy students and pharmacy interns. The Supervisor will work closely with the Education coordinator to design and support these learning programs, curriculum and syllabuses. The Supervisor will not be required to regularly staff an operational role in the pharmacy, but will be expected to support staffing, especially when volumes demand extra help, or when schedule holes pose a risk/negative impact to supporting patient care needs.

The Supervisor will participate in the pharmacy administrator on-call program rotation.

Job Responsibilities
  • Personnel/Direct Report Management and Acute Care Pharmacy Operations Support:
    Supervise shifts, review staffing plans, maintain schedules, conduct performance reviews, manage time cards, career advancement, and ensure employees adhere to expectations and the BH code of conduct.
  • Education/Training:
    Develop and oversee training curriculum for employees and learners, including onboarding, ongoing training, career development, and learner preceptorship.
  • Project Management:
    Design, implement, and participate in projects or initiatives related to medication-use and delivery systems, including workflow improvements, safety, quality, cost-savings, and multidisciplinary projects.
Required Work Experience
  • 3–5 years of leadership experience
  • 5 years of preceptor/educator experience
Preferred Work Experience
  • Post‑graduate training or equivalent experience
Skills and Competencies
  • Undergraduate and graduate education requirements and accreditation standards
  • Interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of computer systems (Microsoft applications, Clinical Information Systems, Kronos, Workday, Staff Ready)
Education
  • Master’s Degree (Required)
Certifications
  • Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist (Board of Pharmacy Specialist)
