Specimen Processor Day Shift

Description: Mercy Medical Center Lab, Springfield, MA

20 hrs, Days, one weekend per month

• Processes laboratory requisitions by accurately reviewing requisitions for completeness, ensuring appropriate signatures have been obtained, and entering patient data, test requested, requesting physician information, and billing information into the computer.
• Labels specimens, centrifuges and aliquots when required for the specimen.
• Call STAT results as necessary and answer telephones and provide routine approved information to physicians, nursing personnel and other staff regarding specimen requirements, test results, and so forth, and relays other calls as necessary.

• 20 hrs, Day Shift (5 days a week, one weekend a month)

• High school diploma or GED
• Knowledge of medical terminology, medical necessity, ICD-9 coding, specimen processing preferred. Medical or Lab Assistant certificate preferred.
