Violence Prevention Instructor

Location:

Springfield, MA, US

Schedule:

Monday‑Friday; 37.5 hours per week with flexibility to respond to programmatic needs.

Salary: $25.64 per hour (FLSA Non‑Exempt). Requisition .

Reports to:

Violence Prevention Supervisor.

Grant timeline: 2 years.

Organization: YWCA of Western Massachusetts – dedicated to eliminating racism and empowering women. It provides a safe place for survivors of domestic violence and/or sexual assault, offering crisis shelter, transitional housing, counseling, court‑advocacy, community education, supervised visitation, and vocational training for youth.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Deliver evidence‑based violence prevention curricula to youth ages 12‑18 in Hampden County.
  • Leverage existing YWCA partnerships with schools and youth‑serving organizations; forge new partnerships to expand program reach.
  • Network and build relationships with public schools, private schools, youth‑serving organizations, and charter schools in Hampden County.
  • Engage youth in prevention services, equipping them with skills to prevent exploitation.
  • Organize trainings for YWCA agency staff (emergency shelter, supportive housing, young parent living, rape crisis center, domestic‑violence counseling, and hotline) to embed violence prevention into policies and daily client interactions.
  • Embed trauma‑informed practices, maintain confidentiality, and uphold YWCA mission and principles.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Committed to YWCA mission and vision.
  • Experience collaborating with nonprofit organizations, public schools, and colleges.
  • Experience working with youth in urban school settings and at‑risk youth.
  • Understanding of interpersonal and structural racism and bias.
  • Experience in public speaking and/or group facilitation.
  • English/Spanish proficiency preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong organizational and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to manage challenging situations, mediate conflicts, and provide appropriate support to youth (crisis management & conflict resolution).
