Department Description
  • Our clinical practitioners in gastroenterology are devoted to researching and treating diseases of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract.
  • We treat common conditions including abdominal pain, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), irritable bowel syndrome, bleeding, constipation, and diarrhea for adults and children.
  • Each of our providers also has a specialized focus in complex cases associated with the liver, pancreas and bile duct, inflammatory bowel disease, cancer, and motility.
  • Our physicians, nurses, medical assistants, physician assistants, and fellows have the common goal of providing safe, efficient, and quality care for our patients and their families.
Job Responsibilities
  • Clinical Practice and Quality Outcomes – Administers direct nursing care to patients and serves as a clinical resource and role model of clinical excellence for staff. Provides leadership collaboratively with the Nurse Manager to develop quality-driven and cost-effective initiatives. Initiates and partners with the Nurse Manager to lead and achieve outcomes in service-based performance improvement efforts.
  • Human Resource Leadership – Leads a positive work environment that facilitates the delivery of excellent patient and caregiver experiences. Initiates and manages necessary change, provides support and resources to staff, and creates opportunities for Shared Governance to solve problems. Works with the Nurse Manager on recruiting & hiring, staff development, recognition, retention, performance expectations, appraisals, and corrective actions.
  • Management of the Patient Care Environment – Highly visible leader in the unit responsible for patient progress and outcomes. Collaborates with other departments and disciplines to meet patient care needs. Accounts for unit issues and ensures adequate materials and equipment.
  • Financial Growth and Stewardship – Manages within budget, stewards financial resources, promotes growth by developing business plans and budgets, holds staff accountable for high-quality, affordable care, and responds to budget variances proactively.
  • Operational Planning – Sets a progressive pace for performance improvement, creates and implements plans that impact patient care and work environment, resolves operational issues, and establishes staffing plans that respond to unit needs.
  • Staff education/training – Establishes a learning environment in partnership with a nurse educator and manager.
  • Facilitates staffing models necessary to support case volumes and acuity.
  • Evaluates clinical processes and workflows to ensure efficiency and facilitate appropriate change.
  • Responsible for direct nurse supervision on weekends and off shifts, in partnership with the clinical supervisor.
  • Evaluates clinical documentation to ensure completion and accuracy.
