Our primary focus is commercial and industrial customers in the region, with a specialty in property management companies. Capitol Boiler Works, Inc. is a privately held company serving the region since 1936.

CBW is currently seeking the right individual to fill a full-time opening for a Commercial Apprentice.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Loads and unloads trucks, and other conveyances.
  • Moves supplies and materials to proper location by wheelbarrows or hand trucks.
  • Stacks materials for storage or binning.
  • Collects refuse and salvageable materials.
  • Moves and arranges heavy pieces of furniture, machinery, and/or equipment.
  • Uses hand and powered tools of the trade to perform such tasks as cutting holes and cutting threads on piping.
  • Supplies, lifts, and holds material, and tools for journey level workers.
  • Help plumbers, pipe fitters, electricians, boiler mechanics, drivers, welders or steamfitters by performing duties of lesser skill.
  • Suppling or holding materials or tools, and cleaning work area and equipment.
  • Transports tools, materials, equipment, and supplies to work site, manually or using hand truck or by driving truck.
  • Raises, lowers, or positions equipment, tools, and materials for installation or use, using hoist, handline, or block and tackle
  • Measures, cuts, and bends wire and conduit, using measuring instruments and hand tools.
  • Rigs scaffolds, hoists, and shoring, erects barricades, and digs trenches.
  • Secures lifting attachments to materials and conveys load to destination, using crane or hoist
  • Installs protective devices, such as bracing, padding or strapping, to prevent shifting or damage to items being transported.
  • Cleans work area, using brooms, rags, and cleaning compounds.
  • Attaches slings, ropes, cables, or identification tags to objects, such as pipes, hoses, and bundles.
  • Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • High School Diploma/G.E.D.
  • 1-2 years previous work-related skill, knowledge, or experience.
  • General knowledge of basic hand tools.
  • Own your own basic hand tools.
  • General knowledge of work site protocol.
  • Willing to learn a new trade.
  • Ability to access military bases and government properties.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to effectively present information in a one-on-one setting to members of management and fellow employees.
  • Ability to write legibly for form completion.
QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
  • Ability to safely and successfully perform essential job functions consistent with ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state and local standards/requirements.
  • Ability to meet and maintain all qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
  • Ability to maintain reasonably regular and punctual attendance consistent with ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards/requirements.
  • Compliance with all personnel policies and practices.
  • Ability to comprehend and carry out safety sensitive duties according to company policies, procedures and safe work practices.
  • Ability to perform simple cognitive tasks such as reasoning, planning, multi task, simple mathematics and Teamwork (able to handle conflict or disagreements appropriately).
