Are you looking to take your career to the next level? If so, Wilson & Company, Inc., Engineers & Architects, is currently seeking a qualified Construction Inspector for our Springfield office. This person will be responsible for the inspection of specific operations on construction job sites for transportation projects. Residing in the greater Springfield area is not a requirement as inspectors generally report to the various project locations.
Roles and Responsibilities- Observe and inspect construction projects from beginning to completion, including thorough documentation of daily progress, tracking materials and quantities, sampling and testing materials, maintaining accurate records and general oversight.
- Read and interpret plans, details, specifications, and other contract documents, and recognize/report any deviations from the contract documents.
- Conduct laboratory and field testing and produce reports on soils, aggregates, asphalt, and other materials.
- Maintain clear and effective written and oral communication, answering inquiries as required.
- Attend and conduct meetings to gain insight into the project prior to construction, progress updates, and other project-related meetings.
- Measure and scale distances using competent math skills to provide accurate documentation of work completed.
- Must be able to travel and stay out of town a week at a time as required for on-site observation, inspection, and testing.
- Capable of lifting and handling 50+ pounds.
- Knowledge of typical construction practices, MoDOT and/or KDOT specifications and ability to learn on the job through observation and questioning.
- Ability to work independently and employ efficient time management practices.
- Effective written and oral communication skills to coordinate with owners, landowners, and contractors.
- Disciplined record‑keeping of daily, weekly, and monthly progress.
- Experience working with DOTs and a thorough understanding of their requirements and expectations for projects.
- 2+ years of construction-related experience preferred but not required.
- MoDOT Technician Certification and/or KDOT Certified Inspector Training Program certification is a plus, or willingness to obtain certification.
