Job Summary / Description

KY3 in beautiful Springfield, MO, is expanding its award-winning investigative team with an exciting opportunity for an experienced investigative reporter. Being the dominant number one station in the Ozarks, KY3 is known for its consumer On Your Side segments. Our OYS unit ranges from advocacy journalism to scams, recalls, and investigations. The successful candidate will research and investigate stories that affect change and make a difference.

Must be a creative storyteller with the ability to write and edit compelling stories for on-air and digital. Must be able to ask tough questions and confront people as needed. Should also be able to do some quick‑turn investigations that deepen the top stories. This is an on‑air position. A reel must accompany your application.

Responsibilities
  • Will dig into complex and important issues
  • Enterprise investigative stories daily
  • Interview news subjects to determine facts and credibility
  • Be able to present exciting live reports with current technology
  • Enterprise, send and follow up on FOIA/Sunshine requests to local, state, and federal agencies
  • Write and edit day‑turn investigative content to enhance news of the day coverage for all platforms. Willing to shoot when necessary.
  • Develop numerous sources within the community to learn about important issues
  • Work with anchors, senior investigative MMJ, EPs, and the news director on targeted special reports each month
  • Develop new and additional creative content specifically for digital, boldly advance the brand across those platforms
  • Organize data and find stories within spreadsheets and databases
  • Demonstrate sound news judgment, collaborate with others to present the story in the best way
  • Attend/host/speak at community service, schools, and community events; meet and greet viewers when needed
  • Must be a visual storyteller; perform creative stand‑ups and explanatory, moving live shots
  • Evenings, weekends, and holidays will be necessary at times.
  • Be willing to learn or possess a broad and working knowledge of the viewing area, including people, places, things, and history
  • Critique, feedback, and training are part of the job
  • Follow clothing and appearance guidelines
  • Perform other job‑related duties as assigned
Qualifications / Requirements
  • A bachelor's or Master’s degree in journalism or a related field is preferred.
  • Must have a proven track record of successful television stories. Experience with investigative stories is required. Not an entry‑level position for a reporter or MMJ.
  • Must have the ability to use web and social media to promote stories, drive engagement, find sources and stories, research stories, and do Facebook live reports with additional information on investigative stories
  • At least 3 years of experience preferred as MMJ, reporter, and/or investigative producer
