Evening HVAC Lab Assistant (part time)
Midwest Technical Institute is seeking an evening HVAC lab assistant at our Springfield, Illinois campus.
Hours:
6:00 pm - 10:00 pm, Monday-Thursday (16 hrs). This role trains students for entry‑level workforce and assists in hands‑on lab situations.
- Work experience in related field of study.
- Strong organizational skills and genuine sensitivity to the needs of students.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time when assisting with lecture and clinical time.
- Knowledgeable of course content and proficient in all skills taught within the program.
- Competent, as evidenced by satisfactory performance of skills, of all competencies taught in curriculum.
- Excellent computer skills in a Microsoft Windows environment. Must include Excel and skills in database management and record keeping.
- Faculty will be selected according to their knowledge and ability as well as their academic credentials.
- Professional attitude and manner reflecting MTI’s high standards.
- Adhere to approved policies and procedures in the conduct of all instructional activities.
- Assist instructors with attendance, grading, planning and classroom management.
- Assist with supervising and coordinating clinical/lab activities.
- Assist with assessing students’ progress in achieving requirements in theory and practice through classroom activities and grading, lab competencies and student evaluations.
- Assist and/or lead classroom and lab lectures under the mentorship of an instructor.
- Assist with placement of students, offering reference letters and resources for student placements.
- Be efficient with planning time by using that time to make copies, lesson plans, posting attendance and grades.
- Begin class on time in an orderly, organized fashion.
- Provide an appropriate, intellectually stimulating instruction based on each student’s unique abilities.
- Be courteous to and approachable by students.
- Use effective motivation to stimulate a personal desire to learn the curriculum.
- Provide additional assistance to students who may be struggling.
- Attend Professional Advisory Board Meetings, Graduation Ceremonies, monthly program and staff meetings, open houses, instructor training and other required functions.
- Join or maintain membership to a professional organization pertaining to MTI’s responsibilities and attend conferences as needed.
- Maintain CEU’s as required by your professional organization.
