Role SummaryThe Forensic Mechanical Engineer investigates mechanical failures and provides expert opinions, analyses and testimony. The role involves field investigations, laboratory testing, report writing and client engagement.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct field investigations and failure analysis of commercial, residential and industrial mechanical systems and components.
- Inspect losses and loss scenes at residential, commercial, and industrial buildings.
- Investigate and assess damages and evidence due to failures and determine the origin of failure for insurers and litigation support.
- Analyze and document the failure analysis and causation of failures.
- Test evidence in a laboratory setting and research failure modes, products, installations and maintenance related to findings.
- Collaborate with other experts to produce detailed reports outlining the origin and cause of losses and damages.
- Serve as an expert witness in court and/or depositions.
- Document and maintain billable hours on a time and expense basis for failure analysis and forensic engineering projects.
- Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited college or university.
- Professional Engineering (PE) license required in the resident state; multi‑state licensing and/or active NCEES record preferred.
- Experience in expert witness testimony is a plus.
