Position: Forensic Mechanical Engineer, P.E.

Forensic Mechanical Engineer, P.E. – EFI Global

Role Summary

The Forensic Mechanical Engineer investigates mechanical failures and provides expert opinions, analyses and testimony. The role involves field investigations, laboratory testing, report writing and client engagement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct field investigations and failure analysis of commercial, residential and industrial mechanical systems and components.
  • Inspect losses and loss scenes at residential, commercial, and industrial buildings.
  • Investigate and assess damages and evidence due to failures and determine the origin of failure for insurers and litigation support.
  • Analyze and document the failure analysis and causation of failures.
  • Test evidence in a laboratory setting and research failure modes, products, installations and maintenance related to findings.
  • Collaborate with other experts to produce detailed reports outlining the origin and cause of losses and damages.
  • Serve as an expert witness in court and/or depositions.
  • Document and maintain billable hours on a time and expense basis for failure analysis and forensic engineering projects.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license required in the resident state; multi‑state licensing and/or active NCEES record preferred.
  • Experience in expert witness testimony is a plus.
