Emergency Medical Technician Mercy Springfield

Overview:

Performs direct patient care including assessment, evaluation, and basic life support according to the goals of Mercy Health System, the philosophy of the Sisters of Mercy, Standard of Care, and Employee Code of Conduct. EMT-I's may also perform clerical, dispatch, and maintenance duties as required. Performs related duties as assigned.

• Licensure: EMT license for the state where employed, valid driver’s license.
• Experience: Applicants must be at least 19 years of age to operate Mercy EMS vehicles.
• Certifications/Registration: Hazmat Awareness, BLS for Healthcare Providers, NIMS 100, 200, 700 and 800 within 90 days of hire.

  Unimpaired mobility:
  Must be able to respond quickly to ambulance, access patients in difficult terrain, climb stairs, work in close and dangerous environments such as damaged vehicles, and with a partner to carry equipment and patients. Must be able to perform strenuous physical requirements such as CPR and lifting/moving of equipment and patients in varying environmental conditions. Must have correctable vision acceptable for day and night operation of emergency vehicles and color acuity for determining skin color.
  
  Must be able to read medication dosages on labels and syringes, hear and understand information from patients and others, distinguish breathing sounds, and communicate clearly in loud or stressful conditions. Pre-hire and annual fitness for duty tests are required.
• Equipment Used: Mobile and portable communications equipment, monitor/defibrillator/pacer, approved stretcher, stair chair, backboard, scoop device, various bags and kits, assigned ambulance, computer, fax, printer and other office equipment.
• Preferred Education: High School Diploma or GED.
• Preferred Certification/Registration: ITLS or equivalent training.
