Registered Behavior Technician - Behavior Support Special Education

The Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) provides critical support to the instructional program by working directly with students in reaching targeted behavior goals, improving social skills, and assisting with the implementation of behavior intervention plans (BIPs). The RBT will work under the close supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), following ethical guidelines and behavior-analytic procedures to assist in behavior management and social development.
ESSENTIALJOB FUNCTIONS
- Implement behavior-analytic interventions based on students' Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs), following the guidance of a BCBA or other certified supervisor.
- Assist instructional staff with behavior management techniques, improving students’ learning skills, self-care abilities, and social competencies through applied behavior analysis (ABA) techniques.
- Attend meetings, workshops, and training sessions to enhance understanding of ABA principles, behavior support techniques, and student needs.
- Collect and document data on student behavior, performance, and interventions to ensure accurate records and support decision-making by the BCBA.
- Provide feedback to students on their behavior, reinforcing positive actions and guiding students through problem-solving strategies.
- Ensure compliance with legal and ethical standards, including maintaining confidentiality and ensuring that interventions follow the BACB guidelines.
- Communicate effectively with BCBA, teachers, and other school staff as appropriate regarding students' progress and behavior needs.
- Support students in diverse educational settings, creating safe, supportive, and productive learning environments.
- Adhere to district safety practices, ensuring the health and safety of students during interventions.
- Perform other duties as required/assigned.
Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
- Experience working with students with behavior challenges, particularly in an educational setting, preferred.
- Minimum of 60 college hours completed OR Certificate of completion from a DESE approved Substitute Training Program.
Special Requirements
- Must obtain and maintain Missouri Substitute Teaching Certificate.
- Must hold or be in the process of obtaining Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certification from the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB).
- Must have a CPR and First Aid Certification.
- Must obtain and maintain physical intervention training.
- Must pass a Criminal Background Clearance, the results of which must be satisfactory to the District, required.
- Possession of a valid Driver’s License, with evidence of insurability, highly recommended.
- Knowledge of Principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA).
- Knowledge of behavior intervention strategies.
- Knowledge of child guidance principles, especially as they relate to students with learning and behavioral challenges.
- Knowledge of safe practices in classroom environments.
- Knowledge of data collection and analysis methods.
- Knowledge of district policies regarding student behavior and safety.
- Knowledge of correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary; reading and writing communication skills; and record-keeping techniques.
- Skills to implement behavior interventions.
- Skills in collecting accurate data.
- Skills in collaborating with teams.
- Skill based competencies required to perform the functions of the job, including operating standard office equipment using pertinent software applications and preparing and maintaining accurate records.
- Ability to work under the supervision of a BCBA.
- Ability to follow behavior intervention plans (BIPs) consistently.
- Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with diverse teams, including teachers, other school staff, and supervisors.
