Virtualization Engineer – Forvis Mazars US
Description & RequirementsThe Virtualization Engineer is responsible for the upkeep, monitoring, configuration, and reliable operation of Forvis Mazars’ virtualization infrastructure. An analytical problem remediation approach and extensive experience are essential to maximize server uptime and investment.
Responsibilities- Administer bare metal and virtualization hosts running Windows and Linux for performance, capacity, security, and stability issues and alert other team members to potential problems.
- Analyze inefficiencies in the server virtualization stack and perform remediations.
- Perform application and OS installation, configuration, and maintenance.
- Create and maintain golden image templates across multiple operating systems.
- Day‑to‑day administration of Nutanix hyper‑converged infrastructure, Dell EMC Isilon, Active Directory, server setup, log review, security remediation, and other duties.
- Work with Microsoft stack (Office, Server, Skype, System Center, SQL, etc.), VMware, Hyper‑V, Nutanix, Service Now, Splunk, and other client‑specific applications.
- Manage permissions in Microsoft Server 2008R2–2016 DFS based shares from a NAS; work diligently to enhance the virtualization stack while minimizing impact.
- Collaborate with Server Engineer Manager for virtualization infrastructure architecture.
- Use advanced network packet diagnostics (e.g., Wireshark) and virtualization tools (e.g., Foglight, Veeam) to diagnose performance issues.
- Document issues, create remediation plans, and produce root cause analyses.
- Provide escalation support to service desk and enterprise application teams; support deployment, compliance, and operation of security technologies.
- Ensure virtualization layer, operating systems, and applications are patched appropriately.
- Work closely with the security department on regulatory compliance.
- Research database issues, standards, and products as needed.
- Present ideas in user‑friendly language and work in on‑call rotation.
- Prioritize and execute tasks in a high‑pressure environment.
- High school diploma.
- 3–5 years of experience in a similar role.
- Mastery knowledge of server and application virtualization methods.
- Deep knowledge of virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper‑V, KVM).
- Knowledge of Windows, Linux, and scripting languages.
- Knowledge of REST, Puppet, Chef, and other automation technologies.
- Experience with interoperability in mixed OS virtualized environments.
- Strong knowledge of RAID, NAS, DAS, SAN, and storage protocols (NFS, iSCSI, SMB, FC).
- Strong knowledge of standard network protocols and credential management.
- Technical understanding of Windows server administration to maintain corporate standards.
- Bachelor’s degree.
- 5+ years of relevant experience.
