The General Superintendent will develop and execute the project plan and oversee all aspects of assigned projects with significant complexity. This role is responsible for managing the team, planning all construction sequencing and meeting project goals, in support of the strategy, vision and values of JE Dunn.

Key Responsibilities – Core
  • Leads all aspects of the company’s safety culture and creates awareness by demonstrating commitment to an injury-free environment; investigates safety incidents and retrains staff as needed.
  • Provides management of subcontractors and organization of the overall job and workflow.
  • Manages and oversees company staff, subcontractors, suppliers and programs such as Safety, Quality and EEO for a project of any size.
  • Develops work plans for subcontractors and self-performed work.
  • Coordinates and manages site care, custody and control.
  • Leads meetings including daily standup and weekly trade meetings; participates in progress and/or project OAC meetings.
  • Creates, manages, changes and implements the project schedule with the Project Manager; tracks and monitors budget/costs as needed.
  • Communicates key project information to owners, design team, governing authorities, subcontractors, suppliers and other departments.
  • Follows project filing and documentation procedures; updates drawings, logs, diaries and inspection notebooks.
  • Approves and/or records unit cost information and completes daily reports and tracking reports.
  • Evaluates progress on self-perform work and makes adjustments as needed; manages material and equipment needs.
  • Supports procurement processes and assists in selecting formwork, tools and equipment; manages timecard approval to ensure accurate hours and cost codes.
  • Ensures quality compliance through specifications, QA/QC and use of outside resources; supports project closeouts with pre-punch activities and coordination with owner, architect and authorities.
  • Gains understanding of the project pursuit process and contributes to project planning and lifecycle management.
  • Partners with field leadership to establish staffing and with project management to identify schedule and cost impacts of changes; negotiates project changes with owner/architect as needed.
  • Participates in project reviews, buy-out meetings with subcontractors and vendors, and ensures understanding of owner and subcontractor contracts.
  • Responsible for recruiting top talent and promoting a culture of diversity and inclusion; upholds JE Dunn’s non-discrimination policy.
Key Responsibilities – Additional Core
  • Manages the largest, most complex stand-alone and/or multiple complex projects from planning to completion.
  • Oversees multiple projects and project teams; provides input and leads strategic initiatives.
  • Contributes to development of company training content and internal subject matter experts; delivers leadership messages to multiple audiences.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Accuracy, timeliness and attention to detail in work output.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; effective presentations.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and project management software (intermediate).
  • Thorough knowledge of construction processes and project workflows; ability to manage budgets and profitability.
  • Ability to build relationships and collaborate across teams; knowledge of self-perform work and labor productivity.
  • Understanding of Lean principles; scheduling software proficiency; knowledge of trades and scopes of work.
  • Ability to understand document changes and their impact on the schedule; layout, crane flagging and rigging knowledge is a plus.
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering or related field (Preferred).
  • Equivalent relevant experience will be considered.
