Position: Facility Systems Technician I (Non-Exempt)

Overview

This entry-level Facility Systems Technician I position requires basic knowledge of boiler, HVAC, refrigeration, control systems, plumbing, electricity, carpentry, and painting. The incumbent will learn operations for HVAC, refrigeration systems, plumbing, and electricity, work practices, safety procedures, and become familiar with equipment regulatory requirements. The role supports small and mid‑size hospitals, critical access hospitals, inpatient/outpatient facilities, and clinics. The primary purpose is to maintain and troubleshoot electrical and plumbing systems while providing excellent customer service and ensuring a safe work environment.

Minimum Required Qualifications

Education: None

Licensure:

  • Valid Driver's License for all Mercy locations
  • Mercy Arkansas Hospitals:
    High Pressure Boiler Operator's License (Arkansas Dept. of Labor & Licensing)
  • Mercy OKC Hospital:
    Class II Boiler Operator's License (Oklahoma City or Oklahoma Dept. of Labor)
  • Class C Tank Operator Training and Certification – must certify within 90 days of employment
  • EPA Universal Certification – 40

    CFR, Part 82, Subpart F, must certify within 12 months of employment
  • Fire door maintenance training with certificate of completion (prior to advancement to Technician II)
  • UL fire stop training with certificate of completion (prior to advancement to Technician II)

Experience: Preference for 1 or more years of commercial experience working with HVAC, boilers, and refrigeration equipment.

Certification/Registration:

Other Skills and Knowledge:

  • Oral and written communication skills to interact with customers and follow instructions.
  • Ability to read and understand technical manuals.
  • Numerical ability for calculations related to testing, installation, measurement, and repair.
  • Work prioritization and conceptualization to achieve finished product.
  • Spatial and form perception for blueprint and specification work.
  • Computer software proficiency:
    Outlook, TMS, and/or Nuvolo.
  • Time and material management to complete assignments efficiently and cost‑effectively.
  • Exceptional customer service skills and determination to meet department goals.
  • Successful oral and written competency exam before advancement to Technician II.
  • General manual dexterity, basic math knowledge, and mechanical aptitude.
  • Exposure to extreme temperatures, electric shock, and loud noise.
Preferred Qualifications

Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred; 2 or more years of training in a Technical or Vocational School.

Licensure: Boiler, HVAC, or Refrigeration. Electrical and/or Plumbing.

Experience: 1 or more years working as a maintenance technician in a healthcare, educational, or industrial setting.

Certification/Registration: EPA approved Universal Certification for handling refrigerants.

Must be trained to NFPA 80 regulations for fire door inspection and maintenance, UL standards for fire stopping, and ASSE 6040 training for medical gas maintenance.
