Job Title:
Head Coach

Reports to: Site Athletic Director

Work Schedule/FLSA Status: Seasonal, Non-Exempt

Salary: Extra-curricular Stipend Group I

Purpose Statement

The Springfield, Missouri Public School District is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Head Coach. The role involves designing and implementing the athletic program for the assigned sport, supervising coaching staff and students, ensuring safety and compliance with regulations, serving as a role model, and liaising with schools, the community, and organizations.

Essential Functions
  • Analyze opposition strategies to develop game plans.
  • Assess student athletes to provide performance feedback and evaluate team needs.
  • Attend meetings, workshops, and conferences to stay informed.
  • Assist with supporting activities like parent orientations and recognition events.
  • Develop practice regimes focusing on strength, speed, agility, nutrition, and injury prevention.
  • Develop game strategies for team and individual preparation.
  • Evaluate facilities for hazards and equipment safety, recommending modifications as needed.
  • Identify program needs and recommend expenditures for equipment and supplies.
  • Manage program funding in accordance with policies.
  • Implement practice schedules and manage facility and equipment usage.
  • Instruct student athletes to promote growth in skills and teamwork.
  • Maintain records of game statistics, insurance, permissions, and inventories.
  • Monitor athletes’ academic eligibility and provide interventions if needed.
  • Oversee student managers and volunteers.
  • Represent the athletic program at various functions.
  • Supervise athletes during all participation areas to ensure safety.
  • Support students during college recruiting processes.
  • Other Functions

    Perform other duties as assigned to ensure efficient operation.

    Job Requirements (Minimum Qualifications)

    Knowledge: Basic math, technical writing, understanding of rules, safety practices, and community relations.

    Skills: Technical tasks, first aid, coordination, organization, communication, and financial management.

    Ability: Schedule activities, analyze data, work with diverse groups, problem-solve, and operate equipment. Must be flexible, able to work extended hours, and travel as needed.

    Responsibility

    Work under limited supervision with opportunities to impact the organization’s services.

    Experience

    Related experience with increasing responsibility required.

    Education

    Minimum of sixty college credit hours required.

    Miscellaneous Requirements

    Background clearance required.

    Work Environment & Physical Requirements

    Physical demands include lifting, pushing, pulling, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and fine finger dexterity. The work involves sitting, walking, and standing, with exposure to temperature extremes and potential injury risks.
