Lead IT Systems Engineer (Hybrid - Cloud & On-Prem)
We are seeking a seasoned Lead IT Systems Engineer to lead the design, implementation, and management of infrastructure that spans both Azure cloud and on‑prem environments. This role requires equal depth in cloud‑native engineering and traditional on‑prem systems, with a focus on building, integrating, and modernizing hybrid infrastructure, including Microsoft hosts, servers and services that support mission‑critical operations.
Responsibilities- Cloud Infrastructure & Automation
- Design, implement, and manage scalable, reliable infrastructure in Azure.
- Automate provisioning, configuration, and deployment using tools such as Ansible, Terraform, and Power Shell DSC.
- Participate in developing hybrid cloud architectures that bridge legacy systems with Azure‑hosted services.
- Monitoring & Performance Optimization
- Develop monitoring solutions (e.g., Logic Monitor, Azure Monitor) to track system performance and identify bottlenecks.
- Ensure visibility and performance metrics across both cloud and on‑prem environments.
- Security & Compliance
- Collaborate with security teams to enforce best practices and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
- Maintain compliance and best practices for both cloud and on‑prem environments, especially regarding data residency and audit controls.
- Incident Response & Troubleshooting
- Respond to infrastructure incidents, perform root‑cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.
- Minimize downtime by troubleshooting issues across hybrid environments.
- Technology Leadership
- Serve as a technical lead for infrastructure initiatives, guiding architecture decisions and mentoring team members.
- Champion best practices in Azure, hybrid infrastructure design, and Dev Ops automation across the organization.
- Legacy & Migration Support
- Maintain and support key legacy infrastructure components that remain critical to business operations.
- Assess on‑prem system performance, patch compliance, and capacity to ensure continued reliability.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to prioritize workloads for cloud migration while retaining essential services on‑prem.
- Support cloud readiness assessments and help shape the hybrid roadmap.
- Participate in the weekly on‑call rotation for after‑hours support.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field and minimum 12 years of IT infrastructure administration experience with a focus on Azure Cloud; OR Master’s degree and 8 years of relevant experience.
- In lieu of degree, 14+ years of relevant experience in IT infrastructure administration with Azure and Dev Ops practices, and Microsoft‑based on‑premises servers and hosts.
- Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or Power Shell for automation and infrastructure management.
- Experience with containerization and orchestration tools (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) is a plus.
- Solid understanding of networking concepts, protocols, and troubleshooting methodologies in a hybrid environment.
- Strong problem‑solving abilities and capacity to thrive in a fast‑paced environment.
- Hands‑on experience with configuration management tools like Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) or Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (MECM) is advantageous.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with a strong customer‑centric mindset.
- Relevant certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Dev Ops Engineer, Microsoft Certified: Azure Dev Ops Engineer Expert) are preferred.
- Required to work onsite 3 days per week in Springfield, Ohio and/or Marion, Ohio.
