Registered Nurse (RN) Clinical Market Float Pool

Overview

The RN Clinical Float Pool assesses, analyzes, plans, implements and evaluates patient care following established patient care standards for the organization, including patient assessment and transfer. The primary function is to be available and flexible to float to various departments and sites within the markets to provide patient care. This may include scheduling staffing, or assignments across multiple locations within a single shift, travel assignments, or seasonal staffing patterns.

The RN participates as a member of the health care team under the direction of a clinical manager or designee as defined by the relevant Standards and Scope of Practice for the Registered Nurse.

Responsibilities
  • Float within tiered expectations:
    Tier 1 – float within a single site based on competency;
    Tier 2 – float within multiple sites within a single market based on competency;
    Tier 3 – float across multiple sites and markets based on competency.
  • Demonstrate awareness of and support organizational departmental and operating unit goals through participation in continuous quality improvement and departmental activities.
  • Act as a patient safety advocate by participating in ongoing quality improvement in the department.
  • Incorporate the professional practice model into care delivery.
  • Plan and coordinate nursing care and clinical decisions using the best available evidence.
  • Formulate and implement a plan of care for each patient, including interventions, evaluation of response, and documentation as appropriate to condition and age.
Qualifications Licensing/Certification

Current nursing license in the designated state of employment (required)

BLS Basic Life Support; ACLS or PALS as applicable (preferred at hire; ACLS/PALS required based on specialty assignment)

Education

Associate's of Nursing (required)

Bachelor's of Nursing (BSN) (preferred)

Work Experience

1 year of experience as a Registered Nurse in acute care (required)

Training

EPIC Electronic Health Record (preferred)

Patient Population

Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on the assigned unit. Includes Neonates (0-4 weeks), Infants (1-12 months), Pediatrics (1-12 years), Adolescents (13-17 years), Adults (18-64 years), and Geriatrics (65 years and older).

Working Conditions

Periods of high stress and fluctuating workloads may occur. Travel may be required up to 10% and may involve long-distance or air travel. May be exposed to high noise levels, bright lights, physical altercations, verbal abuse, and limited hazardous substances or body fluids. May require use of physical restraints. May be exposed to human blood and other potentially infectious materials. May have periods of constant interruptions and travel to off-site locations in adverse weather conditions.

Individuals in this position are required to exercise universal precautions and follow infection control policies.

Hazards
Exposure to chemicals, moving mechanical parts, dust/fumes, electrical energy, x-ray/electromagnetic energy, and high-pitched noises.
