TheJob You Will Perform
The Process Controls Engineer is an integral member of the maintenance and engineering organization, reporting directly to the Process Controls Manager. The engineer will work closely with operations, maintenance, reliability, capital engineering, manufacturing excellence, and management. The position includes on-call responsibilities and reports to the Engineering Manager.
This position is responsible for:
- Ownership, administration, design, and maintenance of critical mill control systems, networks, assets, communication, and equipment including DCSs, PLCs, HMIs, Drives, serial networks, and networked Windows systems
- Ownership, administration, monitoring, and maintenance of control systems’ security, back-ups, and recovery schemes
- Designing and implementing process control strategies to support new and existing processes for efficiency improvements, variability reduction, environmental and safety compliance, and reliability
- Optimization of mill processes via subsystem balancing, supervisory controls, loop tuning, etc.
- Repairing or assisting in the repair of operational and functional Control System related problems
- Supporting the training of operators and maintenance personnel on control or system functionality
- Promoting business continuity of process control systems through documentation, training, and management-of-change
- Assisting with and/or acting as a project manager for capital improvement projects including the design, selection, and approval of automation hardware and software
- Assisting with management of vendors and contractors on-site, including representing the company as an on-site Contract Coordinator
- Assisting with Root Cause Failure Analyses (RCFAs)
- Sharing responsibility for providing weekend and off-hour support for all Process Control and mill electrical and instrumentation needs
- Key customers include plant operators and supervisors, technical and business groups, and maintenance employees
- Support training of operators and maintenance personnel on new control functions
- Assist technical groups with process improvement activities
- Assist in process/maintenance troubleshooting activities and RCFA investigations
- Other duties as assigned
- 5+ years’ experience as a process control engineer is highly preferred
- Process knowledge in Pulp and Paper manufacturing environment is preferred
- Experience in other manufacturing/engineering positions will be considered
- Demonstrated commitment to safe work practices and safety leadership, as well as effective facilitation, project execution, and problem-solving skills
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Proficient to advanced skills with MS Office and Network Applications
- Experience with Foxboro I/A, Allen Bradley PLC, Honeywell TDC
3000, Honeywell Experion, ABB 800xA, GE Mark-IV, and ABB Drive Composer - Experience with OPCDA, OPCUA, Modbus, and AIM API protocols
- Experience using and developing P&, loop sheets, wiring diagrams, and strategy narratives
- Networking certifications (Network+, Cisco CCNA, IMINS, etc.)
- Cybersecurity Certifications (Security+, IEC
62443, CISSP, etc.) - Action-oriented, decision quality, drives results, customer focus, communicates effectively, interpersonal savvy, manages ambiguity, plans and aligns, manages complexity
