Pharmacist – Retail Pharmacy (Part Time, 0.80 FTE, Variable)
Salary range: $76.74 – $99.12 per hour.
Peace Health is seeking a pharmacist for a part‑time retail pharmacy position at Sacred Heart Medical Center at River Bend in Springfield, Oregon. The role forms part of the Peace Health family in a supportive environment committed to the well‑being of its caregivers.
Job SummaryThis position is responsible for performing all necessary functions to ensure optimal use of medications to achieve specific outcomes that improve a patient’s quality of life. Functions include dispensing and distributing drugs, advising physicians and patients regarding proper usage of prescribed drugs, collaborating with other healthcare professionals to plan, monitor, review and evaluate patient effectiveness, and monitoring patients for side effects and drug interactions.
Responsibilities- Review medication orders for appropriateness and accuracy, including contraindications, allergies, dose, route, frequency, duplicate therapy and formulary status.
- Interpret, clarify, and rectify physician medication and IV orders, including the medication reconciliation process.
- Interpret, clarify, and rectify prescriptions and select medications for outpatient dispensing.
- Monitor all patients on specified target drugs and initiate pharmacokinetic dosing protocols.
- Evaluate drug therapy for appropriateness and make drug therapy recommendations to clinicians.
- Prescribe drug therapy per collaborative drug therapy management agreements or Medical Executive Committee‑approved protocols.
- Dispense the final product for administration and perform patient counselling.
- Detect, monitor, and report adverse drug events and medication errors (EIR).
- Supervise and train pharmacy technicians to assure accurate order entry, preparation, and proper technique.
- Supervise and train pharmacy interns and externs; may serve as preceptor as defined by the State Board of Pharmacy.
- Participate in the development of drug protocols and clinical pathways.
- Perform drug‑usage evaluations on selected drugs and report results to the Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee; complete quality‑assurance audits as required for prescriptive authority.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy from an accredited school.
- Demonstrated basic pharmacy clinical skills.
- Demonstrated customer‑service skills.
Currently licensed pharmacist in Oregon or able to obtain a license. - Basic Life Support (preferred).
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (preferred).
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (preferred).
- Basic computer and keyboarding skills including MS Office applications.
- Ability to identify medications and read graduation marks on syringes and flasks.
- Strong planning, prioritizing, and organizational skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to think and act independently.
- Strong mathematical and analytical skills.
- Ability to move around the area with occasional sitting.
- Occasional squatting, kneeling, and bending.
- Fine‑motor skills to grasp and perform precise procedures frequently.
- Frequent reaching.
- Occasional lifting or carrying of up to 30 lb.
- Occasional pushing or pulling of up to 14 lb of force.
- Exposure to biohazards, body fluids, and airborne particles.
- Must be able to complete tasks in a noisy environment.
- Vision and hearing required within normal limits (glasses, contacts, hearing aids permitted).
- Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.
