Job Description
Peace Health is seeking a Lab Assistant – Specimen Management for a Per Diem / Relief position. Salary range $19.76 – $30.85.
Job SummaryWorks collaboratively with all healthcare team members toward the best outcomes for patients and the organization. May perform phlebotomy services, specimen collection/handling, utilize the Laboratory Information System (LIS), and support patients with information and direction regarding laboratory services.
Essential Functions- Prepares, delivers, and picks up items in accordance with health and safety regulations to ensure specimen integrity and quality patient care.
- Collects and labels specimens for requested testing, processes specimens, and completes documentation.
- Performs data entry of patient demographics and test orders.
- Receives, handles, sorts, processes, or packages specimens.
- Provides information to clients and patients regarding specimen requirements and test results.
- Performs waived testing and follows up on abnormal results as defined by SOP.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma (Preferred) or equivalent.
- Phlebotomy training or experience may be required or preferred.
- Prior clinical laboratory experience preferred.
- Valid driver’s license preferred upon hire for driving positions.
- Ability to approach, communicate, and interact positively with patients and healthcare professionals under stressful conditions.
- Works independently while knowing when to consult supervisors.
- Proficient with the electronic laboratory information system.
- Recognizes various levels of service and prioritizes work accordingly.
- Manages multiple tasks simultaneously and prioritizes effectively.
- Patient handling no greater than 35 lbs without assistive equipment.
- Occasional sitting while moving around the area.
- Fine motor skills required for medical equipment handling.
- Lifts/carries up to 5 lbs; pushes/pulls up to 10 lbs; frequent reaching and squatting/kneeling.
- Exposure to biohazard, body fluids, airborne particles, and chemicals.
- Vision and hearing within normal limits.
