Pharmacy Technician

Peace Health is seeking a Pharmacy Technician for a Part Time, 0.88 FTE, Night position.

The salary range for this job opening at Peace Health is $24.50 – $36.61.

Job Summary

Under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist, this position is responsible for performing supportive clerical and technical tasks to assist the pharmacist in providing pharmaceutical care. Accuracy, reliability and excellent customer service skills are the cornerstone of the pharmacy technician expectations. May perform receiving and stores clerk functions.

Details of the Position
  • Enter inpatient orders/prescriptions into the computer and prepare labels for medications to be checked by the pharmacist.
  • Answer telephones when appropriate and within legal guidelines and direct calls to appropriate personnel.
  • Inspect medications for outdates in patient care area Pyxis stations on a quarterly basis.
  • Prepare IVs, PCAs, Epidurals and label all IV products; prepare chemotherapeutic intravenous medications as requested.
  • Package drugs into unit dose packaging and maintain packaging records.
  • Reconstitute medication by adding a specific quantity of distilled water without calculation.
  • Run fill lists and prepare medications for Cubies or Pyxis stations.
  • Deliver medications and IVs to patient care areas. Deliver controlled substances to patient care areas, take controlled substance physical inventories and reconcile controlled substance inventory counts.
  • Enter patient charges and credits.
  • Check in the order, process invoices, credits and backorders, restock medication on the shelves as needed, and, if needed, purchase medication from suppliers.
  • Maintain assigned work areas and equipment in clean and orderly condition.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma Preferred or equivalent.
  • Preferred:
    Experience in hospital pharmacy utilizing unit dose, IV admixtures, and pharmacy computer systems. Retail pharmacy experience considered.
  • Required:

    Demonstrated customer service skills.
  • Required:

    Certified Pharmacy Technician – Oregon, currently licensed or must obtain license in Oregon prior to the first day of work.
Skills
  • Proficient computer and keyboarding skills including MS Office applications (Required).
  • Good mathematical and analytical skills (Required).
  • Strong customer service and excellent communication skills (Required).
  • Ability to plan, prioritize, and organize workflow in a dynamic and sometimes chaotic environment (Required).
  • Ability to take suggestions, corrections, and directions from the pharmacists (Required).

Valid driver’s license and proof of auto insurance required.

Working Conditions
  • Ability to move around area with occasional sitting.
  • Occasional squatting/kneeling/bending.
  • Fine motor skills to grasp and perform precise procedures frequently.
  • Frequent reaching.
  • Lift/Carry:
    Occasionally up to 30 lbs.
  • Push/Pull:
    Occasionally up to 14 lbs. force.
  • Exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • Vision and hearing required within normal limits (glasses, contacts, hearing aids permitted).
  • Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.
