Salary and Benefits

The salary range is $43,998 - $68,437 (salary will be pro-rated based on hire date) depending on education / experience plus a generous benefit plan https://(Use the "Apply for this Job" box below)..

About the Position

Springfield Public Schools is accepting applications for the position of Direct Care Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).

The individual in this position will perform specialized support services as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. The position may assist in carrying out assigned nursing tasks and activities, promote student safety and well-being, reinforce classroom programs, and maintain documentation records. Currently, this specific, part-time LPN position will be assigned to provide health services to an individual student with significant health, physical, and educational needs.

The student will be in a classroom setting with licensed special education staff. The LPN will follow delegated tasks assigned by the Registered Nurse.

Essential Functions
  • Under the direction of a Registered Nurse, implements nursing care according to established priority of needs and according to standards of nursing practice;
  • Confer with Registered Nurse, to plan and oversee day-to-day routines with diabetic and other children with health concerns, including administering insulin to young children;
  • Assist with health related programs, like vision / dental / audiometic / health screenings, weekly fluoride rinses in classrooms, containing the spread of communicable conditions like head lice, scabies, impetigo; administer immunizations as special clinics. This may involve calling parents / guardians;
  • Provide basic emergency medical and first aid care at the school site when not involved in the care of a particular child; assist nurse with further care for students as needed; administer epinephrine and glucagon per protocol; administer medicine per protocol with written parent / guardian permission;
  • Work with a health aide to maintain and update manual and computerized files and records of student health information, including immunization records, and updates on health concerns.
