The Director of Nursing provides strategic and hands-on leadership for all clinical operations at our busy, multi-specialty ambulatory surgery center. This role oversees the full nursing department, ensuring safe, efficient, patient-centered surgical care while upholding state, federal, Medicare, and accreditation standards. The DON partners closely with physicians, anesthesia providers, and administrative leadership to drive clinical excellence, regulatory compliance, quality improvement, and a strong, collaborative nursing culture.

This leader plays a central role in staffing, training, performance management, patient safety, infection control, and continuous improvement to support our high-volume OR environment

Leadership & Operations
  • Provide overall direction for nursing operations, aligning goals with facility objectives.
  • Ensure safe, efficient patient care and maintain a positive, team-focused clinical environment.
  • Lead, coach, and develop nursing staff through regular meetings, performance evaluations, and ongoing feedback.
  • Oversee onboarding, training, competency development, and continuing education for clinical staff.
  • Participate in recruitment and hiring for nursing and clinical support roles.
Clinical Oversight & Patient Care
  • Ensure all patient care meets regulatory, accreditation, and documentation standards.
  • Support physicians and anesthesia providers during procedures as needed.
  • Maintain adherence to proper aseptic technique and evidence-based clinical practices.
Compliance, Quality & Safety
  • Oversee Infection Control, Risk Management, OSHA compliance, and the Safety Committee.
  • Direct Quality Assurance/Performance Improvement (QAPI) initiatives and monitor clinical outcomes.
  • Ensure adherence to federal, state, local, and accreditation agency regulations.
  • Manage incident reporting and ensure proper follow-up and documentation.
Materials & Pharmaceutical Management
  • Oversee materials management, instrument needs, and clinical supply ordering.
  • Maintain adequate pharmaceutical inventory and ensure strict drug accountability procedures are followed.
Collaboration & Administrative Support
  • Work closely with the Governing Body, Medical Director, and Administrator on policies and clinical practice standards.
  • Participate in policy development and regulatory audits.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by administration.
