2025‑2026 Crossing Guard – Robertson County Schools
Apply to serve as the 2025‑2026 Crossing Guard.
Purpose of Position
Directs actions of children and traffic at street intersections and school entrances to ensure safe crossings; monitors and enforces school‑zone speed limits. This non‑supervisory role receives limited supervision, consulting with the School Resource Officer or Shift Supervisor on unusual situations. Candidates must think and react independently to various situations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Patrol street crossings and school entrances during school attendance hours.
- Direct the actions of children and traffic.
- Escort children across street crossings.
- Record license numbers of vehicles that disregard school‑zone speed limits.
- Place and remove caution signs and cones.
- Alert drivers of speeding vehicles using a whistle and/or hand signals.
- Pass a pre‑employment physical exam.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to talk and/or hear. Must have vision sufficient to read license plates. Must stand for long periods, walk frequently, use hand motions to control traffic movements, and handle equipment such as cones, a whistle, a hand‑held stop sign, and a safety vest. Ability to lift up to 5 pounds.
Minimum Education , Training & ExperienceHigh school diploma or GED required (or equivalent combination of education and experience). Must be of good moral character and reputation.
Language and Communication SkillsAbility to speak and/or signal to convey or exchange information, read, and establish effective working relationships with school staff, students, public safety personnel, and the public. Skills to communicate with drivers and pedestrians.
Work EnvironmentPerforms work outdoors, exposed to all weather elements, with potential personal risk from vehicular traffic. Requirement to wear a specified uniform.
ClearanceMust pass a background check with TBI and FBI before placement.
