As a Welder at Washington Gas, you’ll weld and cut metals in the field or shop to fabricate or repair gas piping systems, equipment, vehicles, and tools. You’ll operate welding and shop tools, including power and rigging equipment, and plan methods and materials needed for each job, communicating requirements to your supervisor.

You’ll assess and repair restricted leaks on piping systems to reduce risk, and perform fabrication work on regulator stations, meter racks, offsets, and more. You’ll also assist with construction and maintenance tasks, work independently or lead others as needed, and operate company vehicles. Travel may be required when working with a Senior Welder.

What You'll Do
  • Lead and Execute Welding Assignments: Perform welding tasks in the field and shop on various pipe types, diameters, grades, and metals—both pressurized and non-pressurized systems—following WG Engineering Standards and industry regulations (API, ASME, DOT, etc.). Select tools, plan methods, order materials, and ensure work is completed safely and on time.
  • Fabrication and Installation: Lay out work, prepare templates, weld and fabricate regulator stations, meter racks, offsets, and structural assemblies. Install finished work and verify integrity through required testing.
  • Support Operations and Maintenance: Assist with installing and maintaining gas mains and services, leak investigations, valve inspections, drip monitoring, and excavation. Operate power tools and equipment including cranes and forklifts.
  • Emergency Response and Safety: Respond quickly to emergency situations, assess risks, and make necessary repairs while ensuring safety of life and property. Use and maintain appropriate PPE and follow all safety protocols.
  • Communication and Documentation: Use prints and sketches to interpret scope of work, prepare rough drawings, and communicate effectively with supervisors, dispatch, contractors, and team members. Complete and verify all job‑related documentation.
  • Vehicle and Equipment Management: Maintain welding rig and company vehicles by stocking materials, disposing of debris, and ensuring tools and fire extinguishers are operable and secure.
  • Specialized Tasks: Perform structural fabrication, handle hazardous materials safely, and support construction of company facilities. Collaborate with engineers and senior technicians on planning and execution.
  • Additional Related

    Activities:
