Lead​/Senior Software Engineer

Build and operate the system that gets finished geospatial intelligence products from the analysts who produce them to the agencies and partners who need them. We are rebuilding that system end to end right now: a Python 3 / FastAPI service layer and a Django workflow application on Open Shift, a consolidated PostgreSQL data model replacing roughly fifty legacy tables, cloud object storage for raw analyst reports, and human-in-the-loop work queues driving product review, approval, and transfer — delivered across multiple classified networks against firm government milestones.

This is the senior technical seat on that team. You will set the technical direction, own the hardest parts of the architecture, and be the person the government leads talk to when they want to know whether something is real. • Own technical direction for major components of the platform — service architecture, data model, deployment topology, and the migration path off legacy systems
  
  Design and build backend services in Python 3 (FastAPI, Django) and the interfaces built on top of them
• Lead consolidation and modernization of the PostgreSQL data model — product tracking, approval audit, schema versioning — and retire legacy code paths
  
  Architect and build the human-in-the-loop workflow and work-queue capabilities that drive product review, approval, and transfer
• Own the Open Shift / Git Lab CI/CD build-and-deploy path, including single-command build and deploy and repeatable release engineering
• Direct and mentor mid-level and junior engineers, set code review standards, and raise the team's test coverage and documentation baseline
• Interface directly with government leads and users for requirements capture, project status, and solution options — you are a technical voice the customer trusts
• Drive delivery against hard program milestones, identify risk early, and propose credible mitigations
• Reduce single-person knowledge concentration by documenting the system as it is rebuilt

• Active TS/SCI clearance
• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, with significant technical and leadership responsibility
• Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field — additional years of directly relevant experience considered in lieu of a degree
• Deep Python 3 expertise and production experience with modern web frameworks (FastAPI, Django, or equivalent)
• Demonstrated architecture ownership — you have designed systems, not just features, and lived with the consequences
• Strong relational database design and performance skills; experience consolidating or migrating a complex legacy schema is a major plus
• Production experience with containers and orchestration (Open Shift, Kubernetes) and CI/CD pipelines
• A track record of working independently and leading others — directing mid-level and junior personnel, running code review, and unblocking a team
• Comfort operating as the direct technical interface to a government customer

• Prior work in an NGA or Intelligence Community environment; familiarity with GEOINT product workflows
• AWS-to-Open Shift or comparable cloud migration experience
• Legacy modernization at scale — Python 2 → 3, monolith decomposition, multi-decade schema cleanup
• Familiarity with ICD 503 assessment and authorization (ATT → ATO), software approval processes, and delivery across multiple classified networks
• SAFe or another scaled Agile framework; experience running a release train
• Front-end depth (React/Type Script) to complement the backend
• Comfort with AI-assisted development tooling and setting team norms around it
