We are partnering with a leading UK main contractor with a turnover exceeding £700m and a strong national presence. Over the past 25 years, the business has developed long-standing client partnerships, resulting in a substantial secured order book and a robust pipeline of projects nationwide.
This role sits within a well-established business unit operating across London and the South, delivering a diverse range of refurbishment, remediation, retrofit, and building safety projects across both the public and private sectors. Clients include local authorities and housing associations, with project types spanning residential, student accommodation, and public-sector regeneration schemes.
The business is led by a highly experienced senior leadership team with a proven track record of successful project delivery.
The Role
Our client is currently seeking to recruit an experienced Estimator to join their team in Hertfordshire to produce cost estimates across a range of construction and refurbishment tenders, typically valued between £1m – £10m.
In this role, you will work closely with Senior Estimators, as well as the Operations and Commercial teams, managing the entire tender process from initial review through to adjudication and submission, ensuring all bids are commercially robust and aligned with the company’s business strategy.
Roles and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
* Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates within tender time frames
* Price works from first principles where required
* Benchmark market rates and subcontractor returns
* Assess health and safety, financial, and delivery risks within tenders
* Manage multiple tender workloads simultaneously
* Organise and lead tender launch meetings
* Prepare and complete tender abstracts
* Coordinate adjudication processes and documentation
* Arrange and attend site visits and surveys
* Take measurements and photographic records
* Liaise with subcontractors and suppliers
* Collate and assess subcontract quotations for compliance
* Work closely with Operations, Commercial, and Bid teams
* Liaise with Quality and Bid Writers on submissions
* Present tender cost build-ups at adjudication
* Support junior estimators during tender reviews
* Follow up with clients on bid outcomes
* Manage post-tender clarifications
* Build professional client relationships
* Support negotiation and value engineering where required
* Ensure all tender documentation is completed on time
* Follow competition law and company procedures
* Identify and escalate company wide risks
* Ensure post-tender documentation is archived correctly
