Band 5 Podiatry development post with the expectation of moving to a Band 6 with us. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a permanent Band 5 Podiatrist to join the podiatry team within Herts Valleys Integrated Diabetes service. We would expect the successful applicant to become a Band 6 Podiatrist within a short space of time following completion of HCT's preceptorship program.

The service is delivered in Community Clinics, Health Centres and Acute and Community Hospital Sites. All of our clinics are well‑equipped and we have a supportive skill mixed structure of clinicians.

Staff are supported with appraisal (PDP), protected clinical supervision sessions, dedicated CPD time and a comprehensive Induction programme. The service holds regular team meetings and training sessions.

Applications are invited from a BSc qualified and HCPC registered podiatrist. This post would suit a new graduate Podiatrist.

You will initially be employed as a Band 5 at your current salary whilst you are working through your competencies as well as demonstrating these competently in practice. Please be aware that the maximum expected time to complete competencies and become a Band 6 – Specialist Podiatrist will be approximately 18 months after starting your new role. In the event that you are successful in achieving this, then your salary will be reviewed and your pay band confirmed at band 6 pay step 1.

In the unlikely event that you were underperforming against the competencies, an action plan would be put in place to address these competency gaps; you would remain as a Band 5 –Podiatrist and the opportunity for a Band 6 at this time will not be confirmed. Salary payment until your competencies as band 6 are met will be AfC band 5 scale.

By the end of that time you will be undertaking assessment, diagnosis and treatment, including wound care across a number of community and acute locations.

Base‑negotiable- but staff will be expected to work at a range of agreed clinical sites within West Hertfordshire to gain the most clinical experience.

To be responsible for providing a high standard of patient focussed quality care by assessing, diagnosing and developing specialised and complex care programmes for patients with diabetes within the service criteria.

You must hold a full, valid UK driving licence and have access to a car to use regularly for business purposes (unless you have a disability as defined by the Equality Act 2010).

In addition to the basic salary, this post may attract, where applicable and dependent on base, a High Cost Area Supplement of 5% of basic salary subject to a minimum and a maximum payment per annum, pro rata.

• HCPC Registered Podiatrist with relevant clinical qualification to diploma and/or first degree level or equivalent
• Evidence of continuing professional development
• Certificate of Local Anaesthesia

• Knowledge of the lower limb complications associated with diabetes
• Ability to interpret relevant clinical tests and analyse and interpret complex data
• Knowledge of barriers to understanding and ability to explain complex issues simply

• Excellent communication skills both oral and written, including ability to liaise and negotiate
• Good organisational skills
• Ability to take direction and work on own initiative

Staff recruited from outside the NHS will usually be appointed at the bottom of the pay band. All new appointments (excluding Medical & Dental roles) are subject to a 26 week probation period.
