Learning Support Assistant - Full-Time, Long-Term (1:1 Support for Autistic Child)
Location: St Albans, Hertfordshire
Start Date: January 2026

We are excited to be working with a supportive primary school in St Albans, well-regarded for its inclusive and nurturing environment. The school is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to provide 1:1 support for a child with autism. This is a full-time, long-term position starting in January 2026.

Role Overview

As a Learning Support Assistant, you will work closely with the teaching staff to provide tailored support to an autistic child, helping them to engage with the curriculum and develop essential life skills. Your role will be integral in ensuring the child's academic and emotional growth, creating a calm and positive learning environment for them to thrive in.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide 1:1 support to an autistic child, assisting with their learning, behaviour, and personal development

  • Adapt teaching materials and resources to meet the child's individual needs and learning style

  • Support the child during lessons and in social situations to ensure they remain engaged and focused

  • Promote positive behaviour, managing any challenges calmly and effectively

  • Build a trusting, supportive relationship with the child to help boost their confidence and independence

  • Work collaboratively with the class teacher and other staff to ensure the child's needs are met within the classroom

  • Track and report on the child's progress, providing feedback to the teacher and parents

  • Maintain a calm, inclusive classroom environment

Ideal Candidate
  • Experience supporting children with autism or additional needs, ideally in a school or similar setting

  • Patient, nurturing, and proactive approach to supporting individual learning needs

  • Confidence in supporting children with behaviour management and adapting to different learning styles

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

  • Understanding of inclusive education practices and safeguarding protocols
