Forest School Teacher – St. Albans

Full‑time role starting September at a newly opening specialist autism school. The position involves creating an inspiring outdoor learning programme for children aged 4–16 years whose primary diagnosis is autism, with related speech, language, communication, developmental delay, and social development difficulties.

About the School

The new St. Albans specialist school offers exceptional facilities designed around the needs of children with autism and additional learning needs. Facilities include an extensive private forest area, dedicated outdoor play park, large playground, on‑site therapy rooms, modern specialist learning spaces, and excellent staff parking.

The Role

The successful Forest School Teacher will play a vital role in creating meaningful outdoor learning experiences that support children’s educational, emotional, and social development. You will plan and deliver creative Forest School sessions that encourage exploration, independence, problem‑solving, and confidence while ensuring every activity is accessible and engaging for pupils with autism and additional needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver engaging Forest School sessions for children aged 4‑13 years.
  • Plan activities that promote confidence, independence, and teamwork.
  • Support pupils with autism, speech and language needs, and developmental differences.
  • Create safe and structured outdoor learning opportunities.
  • Build positive relationships with pupils and staff.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and support professionals.
  • Monitor pupil progress and celebrate achievements.
About the Ideal Candidate
  • Qualified teacher with a Level 2 or 3 Forest School Leader qualification.
  • Experience delivering Forest School programmes.
  • Strong understanding of autism and additional needs.
  • Creative, patient, and enthusiastic.
  • Can inspire children through practical, hands‑on learning.
  • Enjoys working as part of a supportive multidisciplinary team.
