Senior Geotechnical Engineer – Ground Engineering (St Albans)

We are seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join our Ground Engineering team in the St Albans office. The role involves leading geotechnical design, project delivery, client engagement, and mentoring junior staff on diverse infrastructure projects across the UK and Ireland.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver technical design and ground investigation for projects from desk study to final design, including specifications, interpretive reports, construction drawings, and design reports.
  • Own day‑to‑day project delivery, ensuring technical quality, budget, and programme adherence.
  • Provide technical input during client and team reviews, preparing alternative solutions and making informed decisions.
  • Develop fee proposals and bids, maintaining high client satisfaction.
  • Mentor and develop junior engineers and support their professional growth.
  • Manage project budgets and schedules, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and interpret UK ground conditions.
Qualifications & Experience
  • BEng/MEng in Civil Engineering or BSc/MSc in Geotechnical Engineering.
  • Chartered Engineering status (IEng/CEng) preferred or on track to achieve within one year.
  • Strong knowledge of UK ground conditions, investigation practices, and design codes.
  • Experience with geotechnical design of earthworks, foundations, retaining structures, and slope stabilization.
  • Familiarity with software such as Slope/W, Wallap, gINT, Open Ground.
  • Ability to produce design packages, risk assessments, specifications, and reports.
  • Understanding of CDM Regulations and safety in design.
  • Experience in specialised sectors such as rail, highways, or defence is desirable.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, with presentation skills.
  • Clean driving licence and willingness to travel throughout the UK.
