Dispensing Optician

Role Description

This is a locum, on-site Dispensing Optician role based in St Albans. The Dispensing Optician will guide customers in selecting frames and lenses that match their prescription, facial features, lifestyle, and style preferences. Responsibilities include interpreting prescriptions, advising on lens options and coatings, taking accurate measurements, fitting and adjusting frames, and ensuring comfort and visual accuracy. The role involves delivering attentive customer service, explaining eyewear care, handling orders and collections, and supporting the in-store team with merchandising and product presentation.

The Dispensing Optician will also help maintain store standards, manage basic administrative tasks, and contribute to a welcoming, inclusive environment for all customers.

• Strong technical knowledge in optics and optometry, with the ability to interpret prescriptions accurately and provide clear guidance on lens options.
• Demonstrated experience in customer service and customer satisfaction, with a focus on building long‑term relationships and delivering a positive in‑store experience.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a patient, inclusive approach to supporting customers from diverse backgrounds.
• Attention to detail in measurements, frame adjustments, and product handling, with strong organizational skills.
• Previous experience as a Dispensing Optician or in an optical retail environment is preferred; relevant professional qualifications or registration are an advantage.
• Interest in eyewear fashion and design, with the ability to advise on styles that complement individual looks and preferences.
