School Counsellor (Shared Position) – Hybrid

White Hills Academy, 31 Elementary School Road, P.O. Box 219, St. Anthony, A0K 4S0.
The School Counsellor will serve as part of the school-based service delivery team, developing and implementing an annual comprehensive school guidance program that supports the holistic development of students. Reporting to the Principal or designate, the counsellor will provide leadership to staff, deliver services to students, conduct assessments, and participate in response planning for potential critical incidents or traumatic events.
This is a blended role that combines onsite and virtual service. The counsellor will travel to the Family of Schools system and conduct in-person visits to the school(s). Onsite presence is required at a minimum of five visits per year, each of at least one week, to support all caseload students. Virtual service will provide daily support for planning, task management, and guidance related to student learning and development.
All onsite and virtual activities will be guided by an annual comprehensive school guidance plan developed with the guidance advisory committee, and a calendar of commitments will be coordinated with the school administrator and immediate supervisor.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities- Knowledge of proactive measures in creating a safe, caring, and inclusive learning environment.
- Demonstrated experience in individual and group counseling and in utilizing data and resources to support student and school community needs.
- Extensive understanding of the assessment process and its implications for student learning, including formal achievement and cognitive ability assessments.
- Knowledge of DSM‑5 pertinent to student services.
- Understanding of human growth, development, behavior, learning, and the promotion of holistic development of students, with knowledge of child development and diverse learning needs.
- Thorough understanding of the ethical requirements in providing a comprehensive school guidance program.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with stakeholders, students, parents/guardians, and collaborative partners.
- Success in fostering partnerships, conflict mediation, facilitation, collaboration, and consultation.
- Strong team‑building, time‑management, analytical, and problem‑solving skills.
- Understanding of the career development process for K‑12 students.
- Strong understanding of legislation related to child protection and youth.
- Understanding of the education system and its support for student learning and development.
- Commitment to ongoing professional learning to inform personal practice.
- Bachelor of Education.
- Master's Degree in Counseling Psychology, including courses in psychological assessments.
- Willingness to use a personal vehicle and to travel as required.
Annual teacher salary scale is contained within the NLTA Provincial Collective Agreement, and benefits are covered under the same agreement.
Travel costs for onsite visits are covered in accordance with NLTA policy.
