Design Manager

Job responsibilities:

Lead and coordinate design activities across the Water Framework.
Manage, support and develop regional design engineers.
Allocate resources and manage workloads across multiple projects.
Coordinate internal design teams and external design consultants.
Act as the main point of escalation for design queries and technical issues.
Ensure designs meet client, regulatory, technical, quality and safety requirements.
Champion safe-by-design principles and ensure CDM requirements are considered throughout the design process.
Work with Framework Managers and the Head of Design to develop consistent design processes and standards.
Support design quality assurance and standardisation across regions.
Build strong working relationships with key stakeholders.
Provide design input into tenders and pre-qualification submissions.
Review tender design requirements, considering deliverability, risk, cost and programme.
Support resource planning, succession planning and the technical development of the design team.
Promote innovation, continuous improvement and good practice across design delivery.
Skills & Experience

Proven experience managing multi-disciplinary design teams, ideally within water infrastructure or a related sector.
A degree or equivalent qualification in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical or Design Engineering.
Experience working across multiple projects and managing competing priorities.
Good knowledge of clean and wastewater systems and processes.
Experience working with NEC contracts and framework agreements.
Strong understanding of the design lifecycle, including optioneering, outline design, detailed design and design reviews.
Knowledge of CDM 2015, safe-by-design principles and relevant health and safety requirements.
Awareness of WIMES, DWI requirements, design codes and relevant legislation.
Strong organisational, planning and resource management skills.
The ability to make sound technical decisions and provide effective design governance.

Experience of using design management software and systems.
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
A collaborative approach to leadership, team development and problem-solving
