Digital Forensic Unit (DFU) Investigator

The purpose of this role will be t o support officers investigating crime by recovering analysing and subsequently providing evidence secured from digital storage media devices in a manner acceptable to the courts and to assist with any other technical elements to criminal investigations and all aspects of digital crime including computers and mobile devices whenever necessary and appropriate.

You will be required to demonstrate in your application the minimum requirement for the role:

  • Proven decision-making and communication skills.
  • Ability to disassemble/assemble digital devices e.g. mobile phones, tablets, laptops etc.
  • Knowledge of different digital storage devices.
  • Able to problem solve different and varied issues through innovative and creative thinking very often in areas without previous points of reference.
  • Able to effectively brief staff and represent the Force on matters within business area.
  • Willingness to undertake personal study.
  • Ability to organise own workload to meet challenging demands.
  • Experience of working with other Law Enforcement Agencies would be desirable.
  • Ability to present complex data in a clear and precise manner to a diverse audience.
  • Must be able to evidence through other work an ability to gather, analyse and process information with comprehensive reference to external sources in production of a final report.
  • Educated to HND or equivalent level in Computer Science, Forensic Computing, or related subject; or possess an equivalent amount of relevant proven experience and understanding of the area of business (for example – experience in the private sector dealing with computer crime/security investigations, mobile telephone operator etc.)
  • Thorough knowledge of Windows, Unix/Linux and Apple operating systems.
  • Thorough knowledge of mobile operating systems such as Android and Apple iOS
  • Knowledge of computer networks.
