Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
We are seeking an experienced Workshop Manager & Lead Mechanic to lead the day-to-day operation and ongoing development of our St Austell workshop. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in helping the workshop reach its full potential, and we're looking for someone who is proactive, organised and able to find practical solutions to challenges as they arise.
This is a hands‑on role combining bicycle mechanics, workshop management and people development. You will oversee bike refurbishment, repairs, servicing, stock management and the safe and effective running of the workshop, while line‑managing an Apprentice Mechanic.
You will also support volunteers and deliver practical sessions for young people attending Alternative Provision. Many of the people we work with have faced challenges in education, employment or wellbeing, so you'll need to be able to build positive relationships, set clear expectations and create a welcoming and supportive environment.
Key Responsibilities:- Lead and manage the day-to-day running of the workshop.
- Carry out and oversee bicycle servicing, repairs and refurbishment.
- Line manage and support an Apprentice Mechanic.
- Deliver practical cycle maintenance and workshop sessions to young people attending Alternative Provision.
- Supervise and support volunteers, students and workshop participants.
- Manage stock, tools and workshop resources.
- Coordinate rotas for staff, volunteers and students.
- Manage workshop communications, including email enquiries and customer bookings.
- Complete day-to-day administration, including record keeping, cash handling and reporting.
- Follow and maintain good safeguarding, health and safety, and workshop practices.
