Location:
Duties will largely be carried out in St Helens at the Firemain Head Office, however on occasions you may be required to attend client premises to support the Field Service Technician.
Salary: £28,000 - £30,000 depending on experience

Job Description
Are you looking to start or develop a career in engineering within a fast-paced manufacturing environment? This is an exciting opportunity to join our engineering team as a Trainee Engineering Technician, where you’ll learn hands-on skills while working alongside experienced technicians.
You’ll receive structured training and on-the-job support to build your technical knowledge, develop practical skills, and grow into a confident engineering professional.
What you’ll be learning and supporting:
Assisting with fault diagnosis and repair of mechanical, electrical and water-based hydraulic systems
Supporting reactive and planned preventative maintenance to reduce equipment downtime
Helping with the installation, commissioning and optimisation of machinery and systems
Learning to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics and technical documentation
Maintaining accurate records of maintenance work and parts usage
Working closely with production and engineering teams to support smooth operations
Following health, safety and environmental procedures at all times
Getting involved in continuous improvement projects across the site
What we’re looking for:
A strong interest in engineering and manufacturing
A recognised apprenticeship or working towards a Level 3 qualification in Mechanical, Electrical or Manufacturing Engineering
Basic hands-on experience (through training, placements or previous roles) is desirable but not essential
Willingness to learn, take instruction and develop new skills
A positive attitude and the ability to work well as part of a team
Good communication skills and a problem-solving mindset
Awareness of health & safety principles (training can be provided)
Full UK Driving Licence (maximum 3 points)
This role is ideal for someone at the early stages of their engineering career who is keen to learn, grow, and progress within a supportive environment.
