Overview
This position is responsible for maintaining rights of ways; cleaning and installing new and existing drainage ditches, culverts, and storm drains; repairing roadways, water lines, and sewer; and performing other manual labor as assigned.
As a municipal organization, the City of St. Marys is an emergency provider of services. Some emergency situations, including weather related emergencies, may necessitate City of St. Marys employees to assist in areas of work which may not be directly related to the employees specific job function, but which will be within the physical capabilities, training, and skills of the employee.
MajorDuties
The Operations Superintendent assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.
GuidelinesGuidelines include department policies, procedures, work order guidelines, supervisor’s directions, and local ordinances. These guidelines are generally clear and specific but may require some interpretation in application.
Complexity/Scope of Work- The work consists of variety of equipment operation, maintenance, and repair duties.

Success in this position contributes to efficient and effective operations of this department.
Contacts are typically with crew members. Contacts are typically to give or exchange information, resolve problems, and provide services.
Physical Demands/Work EnvironmentThe work is typically performed while intermittently standing, sitting, walking, stooping, bending, or crouching. The employee frequently lifts light objects and occasionally lifts heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes a sense of smell.
The work is performed in a noisy place or outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee is exposed to dust, dirt, and grease, machinery with moving parts, and irritating chemicals. Work requires use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, and gloves.
