The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOTPF) Northern Region Highways and Aviation Western District is looking for a Full‑Time Equipment Operator Journey 1 / 2.

Equipment Operator Journey 1 – $31.62/Hour

Equipment Operator Journey 2 – $33.44/Hour

• Set up and operate heavy equipment for maintenance tasks, including snow removal, hauling, drainage, and infrastructure repairs.
• Perform pre‑trip and post‑trip inspections, operator maintenance (fluid checks, cleaning, blade changes), and assist with shop upkeep.
• Maintain roads, bridges, drainage structures, signage, guardrails, and landscaping; perform bridge repairs (painting, sandblasting, concrete work) with potential summer travel.
• Operate plows, sanders, graders, and other equipment for snow removal, applying abrasives, and handling snow haul operations.
• Respond to road hazards, flooding, debris removal, and other emergencies; mark and clear obstructions and ensure safe winter working conditions.
• Set up traffic control for work zones using devices such as arrow boards and flagging.
• Address material spills, typically caused by equipment leaks or accidents.
• Attend required training (e.g., Traffic Control, First Aid/CPR, OSHA) and train on heavy‑duty equipment for snow and ice control, including preparation for the WG 53 test.

Saint Mary’s, Alaska – unique community with rich history, situated 450 miles northwest of Anchorage. The position offers a dynamic, fast‑paced environment with varied responsibilities and challenging weather or terrain. COMMERCIAL DRIVER’S LICENSE REQUIRED – A Class B CDL is required at hire for Journey 1; must obtain Class A within 180 days. For Journey 2, a Class A CDL with N‑Tanker and Hazmat endorsements within 90 days is required.

ALL candidates must comply with DOTPF Drug and Alcohol Policy and pass required pre‑employment drug tests.

EDUCATION – Transcripts are required to verify education used to meet qualifications.
