Position Title:

Long‑Term Substitute – School Social Worker

Assignment Dates:
January 5, 2026 – March 27, 2026

Reports To:

Building Principal / District Student Support Services

Qualifications
  • Minnesota teaching license required
  • Minnesota School Social Worker license preferred
  • Experience working with elementary‑aged students and families preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (Minimum Level of

Education and Experience Required)
  • Knowledge of child development, elementary social‑emotional needs, and trauma‑responsive practices
  • Ability to provide social‑emotional supports, short‑term interventions, and crisis response
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with students, staff, families, and community agencies
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with FERPA and MN Data Practices requirements
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally in written and oral formats
  • Ability to manage time, organize tasks, and work independently
Job Goal

To provide continuity of social‑emotional and student support services at North Elementary School during the long‑term leave period, ensuring that students and families receive appropriate assistance, interventions, and referrals when needed.

Performance Responsibilities
  • Provide direct student services 50%:
    Support students through individual and small‑group social‑emotional sessions;
    Implement short‑term skill‑building and intervention plans;
    Assist with crisis intervention and behavior de‑escalation;
    Maintain confidentiality related to all student cases.
  • Collaborate with teachers, staff, and administration 25%:
    Consult with classroom teachers regarding student needs and supports;
    Participate in Student Support Team processes as needed;
    Contribute to school wide SEL, behavior support systems, and prevention efforts;
    Communicate effectively with staff regarding student plans.
  • Partner with families and community resources 15%:
    Communicate with parents/guardians to support student needs;
    Make referrals to community mental health agencies or services when appropriate;
    Assist families in accessing available resources;
    Maintain documentation of contacts and services.
  • General school duties 10%:
    Support safe and orderly school environments;
    Complete required documentation and case notes;
    Assist with building‑level duties as assigned by administration;
    Perform other duties as assigned.
Physical Effort
  • Light physical effort; may involve walking, standing, bending, and occasional lifting up to 25 lbs
  • Ability to sit for extended periods for meetings, documentation, and student support sessions
  • Ability to engage in crisis‑response situations when needed
  • Ability to use telephone, computer, and related technology for extended periods
Working Conditions
  • Possible exposure to childhood illnesses
  • Busy school environment with multiple concurrent demands
  • Requires flexibility and responsiveness to changing student and school needs
