Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a night shift Emergency Department role in a Level 4 Trauma acute care setting requiring a MN RN license and advanced certifications.
Responsibilities- Position located in the Emergency Department of an acute care setting
- Level 4 Trauma center, stroke ready but not receiving
- Unit consists of 11 total beds, including 7 ER beds and 2 trauma bays
- Nurse to patient ratio is 1:4
- Provides care to a diverse patient population ranging from pediatrics to geriatrics with diagnoses including stroke, chest pain, trauma, respiratory illness, and more
- Commonly administers sedatives, paralytics, pressors, and cardizem drips
- RNs responsible for triage; travelers may be assigned triage duties
- Uses Epic EMR system
- Position follows 12-hour shifts, mostly nights, with 7-7 scheduling
- Required to work every third weekend (Friday, Saturday, Sunday)
- Holiday coverage rotates with permanent staff; night holidays include the night before and the night of the holiday
- No call or on-call requirements
- No floating required
- Primary responsibilities include managing emergency and trauma care for a range of patient ages and conditions
- RNs are expected to draw labs from IVs when phlebotomy is unavailable
- RNs are responsible for initial respiratory management and troubleshooting prior to consulting remote RT support, which is available via telehealth 24/7
- Unit does not have 24/7 in-house security or monitor techs; RNs are required to read their own strips
- Grey scrubs are required for this position
- Unit orientation consists of 3 shifts on day shift, with additional orientation provided as needed
- Active MN RN license required
- Minimum 1 year of recent Emergency Department RN experience
- Current certifications in BLS, ACLS, PALS, and TNCC required
- Experience with IV starts, Foley catheters, labs, troubleshooting, vent management, and reading strips required
- Ability to independently manage ventilators, CPAP, BiPAP, and High Flow equipment
- Experience with Epic EMR preferred
