The Sterile Procedures Equipment Technician performs all tasks related to patient‑care equipment, including pickup, cleaning and decontamination, delivery and monitoring of unit par levels, stocking supplies for SPD and the OR surgical rooms, cleaning and decontamination of code and specialty carts, and assisting the SPD team members in transporting case carts and supplies.
Responsibilities- Assists in processing instruments, surgical trays, and case carts.
- Performs duties in the Processing area; maintains knowledge of instruments and trays and assembles trays and sets per layout sheets. Operates all machinery in the Decontamination and Processing areas and identifies problems when necessary.
- Checks expiration dates on sterile items and acts appropriately when outdated items are found.
- Demonstrates proper phone etiquette when handling callers on the business unit and OR Hotline lines.
- Conducts daily soil rounds, visiting all required areas and returning items to SPD for processing.
- Performs decontamination duties in the Decontamination area, managing workflow independently.
- Records all processed loads and maintains accurate logs, including Biological indicators.
- Manages SPD department stock, rotates supplies, and ensures timely stocking.
- Leads the business unit in the supervisor’s absence, assigning tasks to team members to support patient care.
- Performs other duties and projects as assigned.
- Adheres to HMH organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
- Handles physical requirements: lifts/pushes/pulls a minimum of 5 lbs., stands minimum 1 hour daily.
- High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), or equivalent program.
- Experience with Sterrad sterilization.
- AHA Basic Health Care Life Support HCP Certification.
Minimum rate of $18.36 hourly. HMH is committed to pay equity and transparency. The posted rate is a reasonable estimate of minimum base pay at the time of posting, in compliance with the New Jersey Pay Transparency Act.
