Responsibilities
  • Coordinates all aspects of tests, procedures and surgeries under the direction and supervision of the Practice Supervisor or Manager and physician(s).
  • Schedules procedures promptly and courteously, following facility guidelines and ensuring proper equipment is ordered.
  • Verifies patient demographics, logs patient and insurance information, contacts insurers for coverage verification, and obtains precertification.
  • Coordinates procedure appointments with physicians’ calendars and adjusts schedules as needed; communicates appointment and surgical preparation information to patients.
  • Arranges co‑surgeons or assistants as needed and cross‑schedules with other departments such as the lab or nuclear medicine.
  • Ensures pre‑op procedures are followed consistently: completion of surgical documentation (consent forms, history and physical within 30 days, physician orders); dissemination of documentation; scheduling of pre‑surgery appointments; obtaining medical clearance; coordinating pre‑admission testing and following up on results.
  • Maintains block time guidelines at each hospital.
  • Coordinates required post‑operative care under the provider’s direction.
  • Obtains surgical billing information from physicians, works with the coding department to obtain appropriate codes, posts and reconciles all surgical charges.
  • Tracks all procedures, including completed and pending cases, and tracks all surgical testing and pathology results.
  • Provides excellent customer service; greets patients and visitors promptly, courteous and helpful; listens with empathy in person and via telephone; honors patients’ surgical and financial needs.
  • Displays cooperative interactions with others and accepts responsibility for tasks that need to be completed.
  • Adapts work schedule to meet practice needs and works additional hours as requested; manages time efficiently to prevent unapproved overtime.
  • Performs assignments with efficiency and accuracy; may provide cross coverage within the Physician Services Division.
  • Participates in surgical service meetings held at the hospitals.
  • Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
Qualifications Education, Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities

Required
  • High School diploma, GED, or equivalent program plus two years of related experience.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to learn quickly and adapt in a changing environment.
Education, Knowledge,

Skills And Abilities

Preferred
  • 2 years of progressive experience in a medical office.
  • Proficient in medical terminology and HIPAA guidelines.
  • Knowledge of surgical coding (CPT and ICD‑10).
  • CPR certification.
Compensation

Minimum rate of $22.77 hourly. The posted rate is a reasonable good faith estimate of the minimum base pay and does not reflect the full value of our market‑competitive total rewards package.

Job Duties

The starting rate of pay is provided for informational purposes only and is not a guarantee of a specific offer. Posted hourly rates may be stated as an annual salary in the offer and posted annual salaries may be stated as an hourly rate in the offer. Compensation is determined by market data, experience, education, certifications, skills, geographic location, internal equity, budget, and grant funding.
